Adult Education at B'nai El

B’nai El is pleased to offer several opportunities for Adult Education. Please contact Rabbi Plotkin if you have any questions.

Please refer to the B'nai El Calendar for class dates and times.

The Values and Methods of Mussar
Beginning in January 2009, Rabbi Plotkin will be starting a group that will look at the modern practice of Mussar, values based Judiasm.  This discipline, which combines text study, personal reflection, and group discussion, allows each participant to find ways of improving on positive traits and reducing negative behaviors from thier lives.  More information will be available soon.

Shabbat Morning Torah Study
All ages are welcome to attend this Shabbat morning event held approximately once a month. We look at the weekly Torah portion (and sometimes more) and engage in lively, open, and spirited discussion about traditional and modern interpretations and applications of the text. All opinions, all questions are welcome.

Lunch and Learn
Come and learn from the books of the prophets. Learn the stories of our people in ancient times and the ethical lessons that our prophets taught us for our own day. Bring a brown bag or carry-out lunch to enjoy as you nourish your body, mind and spirit together.

B’nai El Book Club
Join with Rabbi Plotkin and others as we read and discuss some of the most entertaining, inspiring and important modern Jewish fiction (some non-fiction occasionally). No pressure, with a month or two between meetings there is plenty of time to read and digest each book. Check the calendar to find out our next meeting time and the book that we will discuss.   You are welcome to come whether you have read the book or not

Robert P. Jacobs Adult Institute
This annual program at Temple Israel (just up Spoede Rd) is a community wide celebration of learning. Rabbi Plotkin, along with other Rabbis and Jewish scholars of Greater St. Louis teach classes on the widest possible variety of Jewish topics. The 2008 Institute begins in October.  Click this link for all the information.

Shaare Emeth Beit Sefer Cafe
Rabbi Plotkin will be teaching a class at the Shaare Emeth Beit Sefer Cafe for three weeks in the winter of 2009.  Check back for further information.

Single Shot opportunities
On a regular basis Rabbi Plotkin along with others will be offering one-time classes on a variety of different topics.

If there is a topic that you would like to learn or teach, please speak with Rabbi Plotkin.

Hebrew
There is currently not an active Hebrew class for Adults at B'nai El, contact Rabbi Plotkin if you would like to get one started.

Individual Opportunities
If you have a particular area of Jewish interest, speak with Rabbi Plotkin and he will be glad to help you set up and individual program of study.

Other Opportunities
B’nai El will be participating in some programs through AJEC, the Adult Jewish Education Committee of St. Louis. Look for more details in coming months.

B’nai El is always looking for ways of expanding adult education, so check back regularly as new opportunities become available
